वीर कँवर सिंह
प्रथम भारतीय स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के सिपाही , अन्याय विरोधी , स्वतंत्रता - प्रेमी और कुशल सेनानायक वीर कुंवर सिंह का जन्म 23 अप्रैल , 1777 को बिहार में हुआ था । उन्होंने सन् 1857 के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में अंग्रेजों के खिलाफ भारतीय सैनिकों का नेतृत्व किया । होम्स ने उनके बारे में लिखा है , ' उस 80 साल के बूढ़े राजपूत ने ब्रिटिश सत्ता के विरुद्ध अद्भुत वीरता के साथ लड़ाई लड़ी । अगर वह जवान होता तो शायद अंग्रेजों को सन् 1857 में ही भारत छोड़ना पड़ता । ' 23 अप्रैल , 1858 में जगदीशपुर के पास ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी के सैनिकों के साथ युद्ध में बुरी तरह घायल होने के बाद भी उन्होंने अंग्रेजों को पूरी तरह खदेड़कर जीत हासिल की । लेकिन अपने किले में लौटने के बाद 26 अप्रैल , 1858 को उन्होंने वीरगति पाई ।

• 1504 : सिखों के दूसरे धर्मगुरु अंगद का जन्म ।
• 1616 : अंग्रेजी साहित्य के महान् कवि और नाटककार विलियम शेक्सपियर का निधन ।
• 1889 : प्रसिद्ध साहित्यकार जी . पी . श्रीवास्तव का जन्म ।
• 1926 : राष्ट्रभाषा हिंदी के उन्नायक , प्रखर चिंतक तथा स्वतंत्रता संग्राम सेनानी माधवराव सप्रे का निधन हुआ ।
• 2005 : यू - ट्यूब पर पहला वीडियो अपलोड हुआ ।

Veer Kanwar Singh,
the first Indian freedom fighter, anti-injustice, freedom-loving and skilled general, Veer Kunwar Singh was born on 23 April 1777 in Bihar. He led Indian troops against the British in the 1857 War of Independence. Holmes wrote of him, 'That 80 year old Rajput fought against the British power with amazing bravery. If he was young, the British would probably have left India in 1857.
